Many schools work diligently every day to include students with disabilities in general education classrooms and a recent $1,000 grant will help the efforts continue at Umatilla Middle School.
Along with the Florida Inclusion Network, Umatilla Middle School has taken on the task of reforming the program. Jacqui DeWitt, ESE School Specialist at Umatilla Middle, spends countless hours working to ensure each student’s needs are met.
“We are working with the Florida Inclusion Network and are developing a School Based Action Plan,” DeWitt said. “In order to facilitate a meaningful understanding of inclusion and effective inclusive practices, Umatilla Middle participated in a survey. Because our survey return rate was 98 percent, we were awarded a mini grant to help us in our professional development with inclusionary practices.”
